[Event report] ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit in Japan Workshop @ Wakayama University

“The ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit in Japan” Workshop was held on the 15th October at Wakayama University (WU). Ten students from WU and ten participants of the ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit discussed topics themed as ‘the contribution to the future through sustainable tourism from youth perspective’.
The ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit aims for the young talent development in the tourism field of the ASEAN Plus Three areas. This year’s Summit was held between 18th to 30th September in the Philippines and Thailand. As a follow-up program, the ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit in Japan was organized by the Japan Tourism Agency with ten delegates from ASEAN countries, South Korea and Japan. Center for Tourism Research hosted the workshop at WU as a kick-off event for this program.
The 20 participants of the workshop discussed three topics: sustainable relationship among various stakeholders in the tourism sector, women’s role in tourism, and the youth perspective in the tourism development. The students from WU presented local cuisine, culture and tourism sites in Wakayama over the lunch discussion with local food.

Following the workshop, a special session of the ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit at the International Tourism Symposium on IYSTD 2017 was held on 18th October in Toba City, Mie prefecture. The participants of the Youth Summit presented their ideas based on the discussion at WU workshop along with the report on the activities in September in the Philippines and Thailand.
