Sacred sites, place attachment, and visitor values: A focus on Japan
Overview
This webinar aims to examine visitor experiences in sacred sites focusing on Japanese destinations such as Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Taisha, and Kumano Kodo. As in other destinations worldwide, pilgrimage has become a key tourism resource in Japan, with different sites in both urban and rural areas playing a vital role in the communities’ social and economic life. The cultural background of the visitors also influences how these sites are experienced, as spiritualities can manifest themselves through culturally-dependent expressions. This event will provide the audience with a deeper understanding of the interrelationship between sacred sites, local culture, and visitors from the perspectives of place attachment and visitor values.
