公開日 2024.09.11
We are pleased to announce that this year Center for Tourism Research (CTR) will hold an international symposium in Shirahama town which is located in the southern part of Wakayama Prefecture. In this symposium, we will share expertise, knowledge, and experiences about responsible destination management, the importance of tourism education, and also the role of tourism in rural areas. The event will bring together a wide range of stakeholders including academia, public and private sectors, and the local communities to present their insightful theories and ideas.
From overseas, as keynote speakers, two prominent academics, Prof Hiram Ting from i-CATS University College, Malaysia, and Prof Lisa Ruhanen from the University of Queensland, Australia, a TedQual auditor for the UN Tourism Academy will join us.
We are also excited to welcome various speakers from domestic and international researchers, educators, and regional tourism operators. Please see below for details of the speakers.
●Why in Shirahama
Shirahama is a small town located in the southern part of Wakayama prefecture. Shirahama is well known for its unique onsens (hot springs) and beautiful beaches. This town was once one of the most popular honeymoon destinations for Japanese. Now, however, Shirahama is facing a declining and aging population. In this situation, tourism plays a pivotal role there in the revitalization of the region. This year we gather here in Shirahama town to discuss the importance of responsible tourism management and education and also how tourism can contribute to the local community.
Immediately after this symposium, an international conference on the theme of “Rural Tourism” organized by Prof Joseph Cheer will be held in Shirahama on the 19th of November.
Pre-registration is required to attend (For free to attend).
We look forward to seeing you all in Shirahama!!
