Project summary
Although the global tourism philosophy aims for a recycling-oriented society; the reality is different. Today, tourism destinations in major cities are already overflowing with "inbound" tourists, and this can be a return to "quantitative tourism" rather than the "qualitative tourism". The role of tourism films is becoming even more important. This is because tourism films are not only for PR purposes, but also to widely convey an "educational" perspective that aims for better tourism. We will study the role and future of tourism films.
Activity report
The 6th Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival was held in Lake Akan, Kushiro, Hokkaido, under the theme “Beautiful tribes, to the space of living education.” At the festival, seven forums were held by experts and scholars in the field of tourism films, and awards were given to outstanding tourism films. In addition, based on the findings from the festival, two presentations were made at international conferences. The manuscript of this presentation will be adjusted and published as an academic journal at a later date. The festival received 242 submissions for the Japanese competition and 1,036 for the international competition, with a total of 265 people participating in person. The number of entries for the Japanese section in particular was the highest ever, and the participation of 265 people despite the fact that the festival was held at Lake Akan was a great accomplishment. The news of the award was shown in media around the world and in Japan, and the presence of the festival was enhanced.
