Project summary
Saigoku Sanjusansho is the oldest pilgrimage in Japan that was drawn up by Tokuto Shonin of Nara Hasedera in 718. Seigantoji Temple in Nachikatsuura in Wakayama Prefecture was taken as the No.1 Fudasho (a temple issue a amulet for pilgrim) and the Kegonji Temple in Ibigawa District, Gifu Prefecture as the 33rd Fudasho. This pilgrimage is well known; however, little is known about the establishment and the evolution process of the pilgrimage, and the relation of the temples. By means of this study, we will clarify them and discuss the starting point of Japanese tourism.
